Week 4: Tissue Paper Pom Pom Wreath

Hello my Pinterest Fanatics!  I know this post is a little later than usual, but this week's project took me a little longer than expected! :)

This week, I will be teaching you how to make a Tissue Paper Pom Pom Wreath!!

My inspiration comes from...Catch My Party!!

And the result...

Now, my wreath isn't quite as puffy as the inspiration wreath...but I kind of had to make it up as I went (the inspiration had no instructions).  Regardless, I think it turned out super cute!!

Here's what you'll need for this project...

Supplies:
Tissue Paper (colors/patterns are up to you!)
Scissors (or some other kind of cutting tool)
Floral Wire
Wire Wreath Frame

First, cut your tissue paper into 6"x6' squares!  This is definitely the most time-consuming part of this project!  So, don't get discouraged!  Just keep at it! :)

You'll need eight 6"x6" squares for each pom pom...I needed fifteen pom poms total for the wreath.  You may need more or less, depending on how big your wreath is and how full you want it to look.  And you can use whatever colors you want!!  I used pink and silver because Valentine's Day is coming up...and I wanted a V-Day wreath!

In order to make the pom poms, I first referred to the original Martha Stewart Tutorial.  Now, this was okay...but there aren't any pictures showing the steps!  This is a problem for me, because I am a very visual person!  So, I went to Youtube...and watched a few different video tutorials until I got the gist! :)

Now, stack eight of your 6"x6" pieces of tissue paper and fold it accordion style!  I folded it in about one-inch increments.  So, it should look like the picture above when you're done.

Once you are done folding the paper, make sure to trim the ends.  You can make each end rounded (like me!) or your can make the ends ponted...depending on what look you're going for! :)

Now, it's time for the floral wire.  Cut a piece of wire that is approximately 6-8 inches long.  It doesn't have to be exact; it just has to be long enough to wrap around the tissue and attach to the wreath form.  Fold your piece of wire in half and slide over the folded tissue paper.  Your wire should be in the middle of the tissues.  Once in place, twist the wire several times to secure.

Aaaaand...it's time for the fluffing!!!  Fluffing is basically just separating the pieces of tissue paper.  Make sure to do this very carefully so you don't rip the paper and separate each piece one at a time!  Personally, I separated half of the pieces toward the "top" of the pom and then flipped it over and separated the other half toward the "bottom."  In my opinion, this gives it more of a uniform look once complete!  You may need to manipulate the tissue paper a little more in order to get it to look the way you want...but you'll get it! :)

Now, you are going want to make about a million of these!!
Okay, maybe not a million...but you'll need quite a few!
Like I said earlier, I used fifteen poms for my wreath.

Once you have made all of your pom poms, it's time to assemble your wreath.  This part is very simple...just attach each pom pom to the wreath form with the wire!

And look how AWESOME it turned out!! :)

Now...it's your turn...

Have fun!

Come back next week for another great project!!

Week 3: Fabric Flowers

Hello my fellow Pinterest Fanatics!  I hope you are enjoying my blog so far!  I am certainly enjoying it! :)

This week, I am teaching you how to make some absolutely adorable Fabric Flowers!  I learned how to make these a while back...and I absolutely LOVE them!  You can use them for soooo many things!  I have used them on wreaths, made them into hair clips, and so many more things!  The options are endless!

My inspiration comes from Obstinate Pursuit!

And my version...

Here's what you'll need for this project...

Supplies:
Cotton Fabric (any color, any print...I usually buy fabric quarters)
Scissors
Compass/Drinking Glass/Circle Cutting Tool
Pen/Pencil/Sharpie
Needle
Thread
Felt
Buttons
Hot Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Iron (Optional)

First, iron the fabric to eliminate any creases.  This is optional, but it makes it easier to cut the fabric pieces more evenly.  (obviously, I forgot to iron my fabric before beginning...but I would highly recommend it)

Now, use your compass/drinking glass/cutting tool and your pen/pencil to create circles on your fabric, of all the same size.  I make three sizes of flowers, small (1 in radius circles), medium (1.5 inch radius circles), and large (2 inch radius circles).  You will need 6 circles for small flowers and 5 circles for both medium and large flowers.

Once you have your fabric cut, go back to the ironing board!

Fold each circle in half and iron in place.  Then, fold each circle in half again and iron in place.  Again, the ironing is optional, but I think it makes the flowers look nicer.

Now, hand stitch along the "raw" edge of the fabric.

Then, pull the thread tight to form the petal.

Repeat this with the other folded circles (6 for small and 5 for medium or large), using one continuous piece of thread.

When done stitching the petals, you need to stitch the last petal to the first petal in order to create a circle.  Now your flower is starting to come together!

Next, you need to cut a small circle from your felt.  I find it easiest to trace a coin and then cut it out.  Hot glue the piece of felt onto the BACK of your flower.  Make sure to put the hot glue around the edges of the felt, so that it sticks to the fabric and is not just sticking out of the hole in the center of the flower.

Now, it's time to add your center.  Choose a button and hot glue it to the FRONT of the flower.  Again, making sure to put the glue around the edge of the button, not in the center.

And...you're ALL DONE!  Now, isn't that just adorable?!?

Here is an example of one of the wreaths I have made using these flowers...

 It's pretty cute, right? :)

Well, that's all for now!
I hope you guys enjoy this project!

And stay tuned for another great project next week!

XOXO,
Brittney

Week 2: Oreo Pops

Hello Pinterest Fanatics!  I hope you all had a maaaarvelous week!

I am back again!  And this week...I will show you how to make Oreo Pops!
These are an adorable, delicious, and simple treat to make for ANY occassion!

My inspiration comes from...Hip Hip Hooray!!

And the result...

Here's what you'll need for this project...

Double Stuff Oreos
Wilton's Candy Melts
(I prefer white, but you can use whatever color you like)
Lollipop Sticks
Sprinkles!
Wax Paper

First, insert the lollipop sticks into the cream of the Oreos (as many as you want to make).  Be careful with this part.  You need to insert the stick slowly and carefully...so you don't break the Oreo!  Also, try to only push it about halfway through the cookie because you don't want it coming out the other end! :)

Next, melt the Wilton's Candy Melts.  To melt, just follow the directions on the package.  I use a double boiler because, in my opinion, it is easier to monitor your candy melts...and you are less likely to burn your candy this way!

Once your candy is sufficiently melted, it's time to coat the Oreos!  Simply dip the Oreos-on-a-stick into the melted candy.  Make sure to coat the Oreos evenly; you really don't want any of the cookie showing.  I also used a spoon to pour the melted candy over the Oreos...it seemed to give it a more even coverage.  Once your Oreo-on-a-stick is completely covered in melted candy, lightly tap the stick along the side of the pan/bowl to remove any excess candy.  Then, place on a piece of wax paper to dry.  Before the candy completely drys, make sure to add sprinkles of your choice!

And...you're done!  That's it!

Once all of your Oreo Pops are dry, you can remove
from the wax paper and serve on a pretty serving dish!

How easy is that?!?  And delicious too!

Thanks for reading!
And stay tuned for another great project next week!!

XOXO

Week 1: Calendar Blocks

Okay Pinterest Fantatics...it's time for my first Pinterest tutorial!!

Today, I will be showing you how to make Calendar Blocks!

My inspiration comes from Simply {Kierste}...

And the result...

I think it turned out SUPER cute!!

Ready to learn how to make one...?

Okay...here's what you need...

Supplies:
  • Wood--> 4x4 post cut into two square blocks; 2x4 cut 7" in length (I had my hubby do this part...I don't trust myself with a power saw! I'm pretty sure I would lose a finger, or two!)
  • Paint--> You can use whatever color you like, but I would recommend a neutral color.  I used white.
  • Scrapbook Paper--> Three different colors (your choice)!
  • Cardstock--> Plain white cardstock paper
  • Mod Podge!!
  • A Paint Brush (or two)
  • Scissors
  • Double-stick Tape

Directions:

First, paint the wood!  Easy enough, right?  It may take a couple of coats...and a little bit of time since you can't really paint all sides at once...but you can handle it!

Now, while the paint is drying, cut your scrapbook paper into the necessary sizes.  I used my paper cutter for this part because it is SUPER easy...but if you don't own one, you can use scissors too! ;)

Cut several 3.5"x3.5" squares from each piece of scrapbook paper (you need a total of 12 squares-I made four of each color).  You will also need to cut out a 1.5"x7" rectangle and twelve 1.5"x5" rectangles (I used one color for the first rectangle and a different color for the other twelve).  You may end up trimming some of these pieces of paper...it all depends on how even your wood is.

Next, type up and print out the various months on cardstock.  I just used Microsoft Word to type up the months.  I put each month into a text box and made each text box 1"x4" in size.  I also used Mister Giggles as the font (you can download it here for free)!  Once you print the months on cardstock, use your handy dandy scissors to cut them apart!  They should look something like this...

Now, mount each month onto one of the twelve
1.5"x5" rectangles you cut out earlier.

Okay...now for the numbers!  I used my Cricut to cut out the different numbers...but if you don't have one, you can always just use your computer to type, print, and cut them out.  And if you don't want to do that, you could probably also find some number stickers and use those!

Here is the number placement you will need to use...
Block 1: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Block 2: 0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 (keep in mind that the 6 doubles as a 9)

Now, it's time for the MOD PODGE!!

First, Mod Podge the 1.5"x7" rectangle onto the front of the piece of 2x4.  Then, Mod Podge alternating colors of paper onto each side of both blocks.

Wait for it to dry...

Add some double-stick tape to the back of the
month you want to use, and you're done!!

I really think it turned out great!
I can't wait to use it ALL year long!

If you decide to make one too, feel free to share pictures!
I would love to see everyone's final projects!

XOXO
